Korean Hanji Paper - NATURAL WITH LARGE INCLUSIONS

Natural Korean Hanji Paper

You can feel centuries of craftmanship and refinement in Korean Hanji Paper which traces its roots as far back as the 3rd century. Hanji utilizes the soft, inner bark of the mulberry tree. Setting it apart from other mulberry papers is the addition of Hibiscus miniot. The miniot aids in holding the pulp fibers together adding a level of strength and durability surpassing other kozo papers. The durability of Hanji paper is virtually unmatched. There are documents over 800 years old that are still preserved in Korea.

As a result of its strength and durability, Hanji paper has found many uses over the years including lining floors, walls and doorways of straw thatched homes to help control temperature and moisture. It was also used to record legal documents and written histories. In more contemporary years, Hanji has been used in a variety of both traditional Korean art applications including jiho, jido, and jiseung, and western art forms like lamp shades, collage, origami and decoupage.

This off-white Hanji paper with inclusions is available in multiple sizes including: 25" x 37", 12" x 12", 6" x 6" and 8.5" x 11". It weighs approximately 60 grams per square meter providing lightweight and translucent paper option.
